Molly & Eric – Portland Custom’s House

From the first conversation I had with Molly and Eric, I could feel the overflow of good vibes. Their chemistry was undeniable, which made the prospect of being part of their special day even more exciting. It might sound cliché, but you really could “feel the love” in the air—that was the energy from the start.

When they told me they were getting married in Portland, Maine, I didn’t hesitate. Even though it was a bit further than I typically travel, I was hooked from the moment they mentioned the Portland Customs House. A quick Google search had me eager to play there—historic and breathtaking venues like that always add an extra layer of excitement.

Molly and Eric’s first concern was the sound. With the Customs House’s towering ceilings and cavernous interior, they were worried it would feel like a giant echo chamber. Fortunately, as a sound engineer, I reassured them that I had it covered. While there would naturally be some reverb, I promised that it wouldn’t stop us from having an unforgettable party. Molly was also all about creating the perfect aesthetic and had chosen to add uplighting, which can transform any space into a vibrant party zone. When I saw the venue, I knew I had to bring extra lights, including some moving head yokes—the kind you see at red carpet events. My assistant Dan and I were so glad we did because the room truly deserved that little bit of extra magic.

One of the highlights for me was when Eric told me they were making their entrance to Van Halen’s “Jump,” one of my all-time favorite songs and bands. Lighting up the Portland Customs House while blasting Van Halen and celebrating Molly and Eric’s new life together felt like something straight out of a movie. It was a total thrill.

Portland was buzzing when we arrived, and food trucks were lined up outside the venue, adding to the festive atmosphere. I could smell the pizza as I walked in, and I knew everyone was in for an amazing night. Once the dancing started, the energy didn’t dip for a second. As a DJ, you always hope the crowd will connect with your vibe, and that night, they were on board from the very first beat. It was pure instant gratification to see everyone so hyped right from the jump (pun intended).

Molly had a special request to end the night with Taylor Swift’s “Love Story,” a tradition in her family as both of her sisters had done the same at their weddings. It was the perfect way to close out the evening, with Taylor’s lyrics beautifully capturing the love between Molly and Eric.

By the end of the night, Dan and I were exhausted, but in the best way possible—the kind of tired where you know you gave everything you had, and it was completely worth it. Molly and Eric’s wedding wasn’t just memorable; it was all Molly had hoped it to be and I am so proud to have been a part of that.
